Arenberg is wellknown throughout Europe because of its pilgrimage place.

My mother’s family comes from Rhineland-Pfalz. They lived until 1936/1937 in the Silberstraße (Silver Street) in Arenberg near Koblenz, which is famous because of the Rhine and Mosel river coming together at The German Corner. From 1937 on until 1946 they lived in a town near Breslau in Silesia und after WWII again in Arenberg and other towns in the Rhineland-Pfalz area.

My grandparents sold house and acreage in Arenberg and Weitersburg and bought a larger farm near the town of Breslau in Silesia. Their hope was to give their large family a better future, but as it turned out the war chattered their dreams. They had to leave everything behind them in 1945 and move back to the Rhineland area because the Russians occupied their farm. Today, Silesia belongs to Poland.
